Getting started
Are these courses really state approved?+
Yes. Every course is approved by the state agency listed on its page — the Florida FLHSMV, Texas TDLR, New York DMV or Illinois Secretary of State.
Can I do it all on my phone?+
Yep. Courses run on phones, tablets and computers, and your progress saves so you can switch devices whenever you like.
How do I reach support?+
Our team is here at 1-800-558-9887 (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM CST) or info@ticketschool.com.
Florida
Learner's Permit Exam (Class E)
Is the online permit exam approved by the State of Florida?+
Yes. Our provider, Driver Training Associates, Inc. (d.b.a. TicketSchool.com), is an FLHSMV-approved third-party administrator of the online Class E Knowledge Exam — sometimes called the road signs and road rules test.
Who can take it online?+
Anyone at least 14.5 and under 18. Eligibility is checked with the FLHSMV — you can't register if you already have three attempts on file or an exam in progress. If you're 18 or older, the exam must be taken in person.
Does a parent or guardian need to watch?+
Yes. Florida requires a parent or guardian to proctor the exam. They enter their driver's license number at registration and are responsible for making sure no help is given.
Is there a time limit?+
Yes — 60 minutes in total, and you must begin within 24 hours of passing the eligibility check. Each question also has a 2-minute limit; going over it fails the attempt.
How does the exam work?+
After you register and pay, click "Begin Test" to open the state testing portal. Answer two identity questions, then work through the 50 questions one at a time. 40 correct is a pass; 11 wrong ends the attempt.
Can I click around during the exam?+
No. Once it starts, only click on the answer choices. Clicking elsewhere, opening a new tab or leaving the page counts as an automatic fail and uses one of your attempts.
How many tries do I get?+
Up to three online attempts, each with a new registration. After three, you'll need to test in person at a driver license or tax collector's office.
Do I get a certificate?+
No certificate is needed. Your result goes straight into the FLHSMV system and will show up at your driver license or tax collector appointment.
Is the exam offered in other languages?+
No — Florida law requires the online exam to be taken in English.
Can I fix my registration details?+
Only before the exam starts. Reach us at 1-800-558-9887 (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM CST) or info@ticketschool.com. Once the exam begins, state rules don't allow changes.
What if I'm not happy?+
You're covered by a 60-day money-back guarantee as long as the exam hasn't been started. Once an attempt begins, it can't be refunded.
Florida
Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS)
Is DETS the course I need for my permit if I'm under 18?+
Yes. Since August 1, 2025, Florida requires new drivers under 18 to complete the 6-hour DETS course (it replaced the 4-hour TLSAE for this age group). If you're 18 or older, TLSAE is still the one you need.
How old do I need to be?+
Between 14.5 and 17.
How long does it take?+
State law sets a 6-hour minimum. It mixes reading and video, so your actual time depends on your pace.
Is it just a wall of text?+
Not at all — it's packed with videos, animations and bright graphics.
Do I have to finish in one go?+
No. Log out whenever you want; your spot is saved and the course is open 24/7.
Is there a final exam?+
Yes. It's 40 questions, you need 80% to pass, and you get three tries.
What if I miss a chapter quiz?+
No big deal — review and retake it as often as you need for free. You won't be locked out.
Is my completion sent to the state?+
Yes. After the final, you confirm your details and we file your completion electronically with the FLHSMV. A free PDF certificate is yours to download too.
How quickly will the state see it?+
Usually right away. Rarely it can take up to 24 hours to show in the state's system, so bring a copy of your certificate just in case.
Can I take the permit exam with you as well?+
Yes — if you're 14.5 to 17, you can take the 50-question Class E exam online with us, in either order with DETS.
I lost my login code. What now?+
Check the registration email you received — your code is there. You can also use "I forgot my login" on the course login page, or contact support.
Can I change my registration info?+
Yes, while you're still in the course. After your completion is reported, changes carry a $10 correction and re-reporting fee.
Any hidden fees?+
None. The price covers the course, quizzes, PDF certificate and electronic reporting to the FLHSMV — plus a 60-day money-back guarantee if you haven't passed yet.
Florida
Drug & Alcohol Course (TLSAE)
Do I need TLSAE if I'm under 18?+
No. A 2025 Florida law change means drivers under 18 now take the 6-hour DETS course instead. TLSAE is still required for first-time drivers 18 and over.
Is TLSAE the same as DATE or DATA?+
Yes. Its official name is Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education, but people also call it the Florida drug and alcohol course, DATE or DATA.
Is it state approved?+
Yes. It's an FLHSMV-approved TLSAE course for Florida residents 18+ getting a learner's permit or first license.
How long does it take?+
Florida requires at least 4 hours; your actual time depends on how fast you read.
Can I take breaks?+
Of course. Log in and out whenever you like — your progress is saved.
Why are there security questions?+
Florida requires identity checks to confirm it's really you taking the course. Missing three of them means starting over, so answer carefully.
Is there a final exam?+
No. Just short quizzes at the end of each unit, with unlimited retries.
I've had a license in another state. Do I still need this?+
No. TLSAE is only for people who've never held a U.S. license. Some drivers licensed abroad may need it — your local license office can confirm.
How is my completion reported?+
Electronically to the FLHSMV right after you finish, plus a downloadable PDF certificate. In rare cases the state takes up to 24 hours to update.
Can I take the permit exam online too?+
Only if you're 14.5 to 17. Drivers 18+ must take the Class E exam in person.
Any hidden fees?+
Nope. The price includes the course, quizzes, PDF certificate and electronic reporting to the FLHSMV.
Texas
Adult Driver Education
Is the course approved by the state?+
Yes. It's licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) — Driver Training Associates, Inc. (d.b.a. TicketSchool.com), Provider #C3588.
Who needs it?+
First-time Texas license applicants ages 18–24 are required to take it. At 25+ it's optional but still a smart idea. You can't already hold a license from another state or country.
How long is it?+
6 hours, as set by TDLR. It's open 24/7 and you can log in and out as you go.
Does it replace the DPS written test?+
Yes. Finishing the course covers the road signs and rules knowledge test, so you can skip it at DPS by bringing your certificate.
Is there a final exam?+
Yes — 30 multiple-choice questions, 70% to pass, with three tries. Fail all three and you'll restart the course.
What about the unit quizzes?+
You get three tries per unit quiz, with a chance to review between attempts. Three misses on the same quiz means starting over.
Is my completion sent to DPS?+
No. You'll get a PDF certificate right after passing — print it and bring it to your DPS driving test appointment.
What's Impact Texas Drivers?+
A free 1-hour video program required for drivers 18+ before the driving skills test. It must be finished within 90 days of your road test.
I'm moving to Texas with a license. Do I need this?+
Usually not. New residents can drive on a valid out-of-state license for 90 days, then apply in person at a driver license office.
Any hidden fees?+
None. $39.95 covers the course, quizzes, final exam and PDF certificate — backed by a 60-day money-back guarantee if you haven't passed.
New York
5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course
Is the online 5-hour course approved by the NY DMV?+
Yes. Our online pre-licensing course is approved and licensed by the New York DMV.
Who can take it online?+
You need to be 18 or older with a valid New York learner's permit. Under 18, the DMV requires the classroom version. If you already hold a valid MV-285 from a school driver ed program, you don't need this course.
Can I use my temporary paper permit?+
No. The DMV needs the number, document number and expiration date from your plastic permit card. Paper permit details cause reporting errors and could mean retaking the course.
How long is it?+
Called the 5-hour course, it's 270 minutes (4.5 hours) of instruction. You have 30 days from registration to finish.
Is it fully online?+
Yes — no visits anywhere. It's open 24/7 on any device with internet.
Is there a final exam?+
No. Each unit ends with a 4-question quiz (3 right to pass) and three tries. Fail the same quiz three times and you'll re-register — your restart is free.
Do I get a certificate?+
No certificate to carry. We report your completion to the NY DMV; it takes 24–48 hours to post to your record, then you can book your road test.
What if it's not on my record yet?+
Give it up to 48 hours. Still missing after that? Contact us at 1-800-558-9887 (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM CST) or info@ticketschool.com.
How long is my completion valid?+
One year. It must be valid on the day you schedule your road test — it can expire before the test itself.
How is my identity checked?+
You set up 10 identity questions at registration and answer one each time you log in, plus checks during the course. Two misses in a row pauses your account until you speak with support.
What if I'm not satisfied?+
Full refunds are available within 30 days of registration, as long as you haven't finished the course or been disqualified.
Illinois
Adult Driver Education
How long is the course?+
Every Illinois Secretary of State–approved adult course is 6 hours. You can start any time and log in and out as needed.
Who's eligible?+
You qualify if you're 18, 19 or 20, applying for your first Illinois license, and haven't taken driver ed in high school or at a commercial driving school.
How much does it cost?+
$49, with nothing extra — the certificate and electronic filing with the Secretary of State are included.
Do I need behind-the-wheel training?+
It isn't required, but it's a great idea. You'll still pass a driving test at an SOS facility, and the state suggests up to 50 hours of supervised practice (10 at night).
I took driver ed in high school. Do I still need this?+
No. Bring proof — a certified transcript with a passing grade or a commercial school completion receipt — and you can apply without it.
Is there a final exam?+
Yes. 20 multiple-choice questions, 70% to pass, and two attempts. It's separate from the written test at the license office.
What if I fail a unit quiz?+
Review and retake unit quizzes as many times as you need at no cost.
Is my completion reported?+
Yes, electronically to the Illinois Secretary of State within 1 business day. The SOS then emails you a completion letter to bring to the license office.
I'm moving to Illinois with a license. Do I need this?+
No. You'll surrender your out-of-state license and take any required tests — no adult driver ed needed.
What if I'm not satisfied?+
We offer a 60-day money-back guarantee unless you've been disqualified for identity, quiz or final exam failures.
